Ranks in ascending order. Ranks in the Russian army: from private to general. Cossack ranks and titles

- Where do they get military ranks
— Decree on military ranks
- Shoulder straps
- Command of the Russian Army

In the Russian army, all military ranks are divided into 2 large categories:

1) Ship.
Ship ranks can boast in the Russian army by those who serve in:
a) Navy (its submarine and surface forces).
b) Military naval units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
c) Protection (coastal) of the Border Service of the Russian FSB.

2) Military.
In the Russian army, ranks are also received in:
a) the Armed Forces;
b) the Ministry of Internal Affairs (district and other police "people");
c) Ministry of Emergency Situations (brave "rescuers of Malibu");
d) Intelligence Service (foreign) (yeah-ah, those very followers of Stirlitz!);
e) the Federal Security Service;
f) Other military units.

Peculiarities:

1) Before the military rank of a serviceman serving in a guards military unit or guards formation, on a guards ship, the word "guards" is added.

2) To the military ranks of military personnel; having a legal, medical or veterinary military specialty, the words “justice”, “medical service” or “veterinary service” are added accordingly.
For example: lieutenant of the medical service, captain of the veterinary service, major general of the medical service, colonel general of justice.
To the military rank of a person who is in the reserve (reserve) or retired, the word "reserve" ("reserve") or "retired" is added, respectively.

3) The name of the type of troops or service is not added to the military ranks of sergeants (foremen) and warrant officers (midshipmen).

4) Military personnel studying in a military educational institution of vocational education are called: those who do not have a military rank of officers - cadets, and those who have a military rank - listeners.
Citizens who did not have a military rank before entering the military educational institution vocational education or who had the military rank of a soldier, sailor, when enrolling for study, the military rank of cadet is assigned. Other military ranks assigned before entering a military educational institution of vocational education are retained.

— Decree on military ranks

Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 30 of January 10, 2009 amended paragraph 2 of Article 20 of these Regulations

1) Before the military rank of a serviceman serving in the guards military unit, on the ship, the word "guards" is added.

To the military rank of a serviceman, or a citizen who is in the reserve, having a military registration specialty of a legal or medical profile, the words "justice" or "medical service" are added, respectively.

To the military rank of a citizen who is in the reserve or retired, the words "reserve" or "retired" are added, respectively.

2) The seniority of military ranks and compositions of military personnel is determined by the sequence of their listing in Article 46 of the Federal Law: from the military rank "private" ("sailor") to a higher one and from the composition of "soldiers, sailors, sergeants, foremen" to a higher one.

Military and naval military ranks corresponding to each other are considered equal.

3) Military ranks assigned to military personnel personally.
Military rank can be first or next.

4) The form and content of submissions, forms of other documents and orders for the conferment of military ranks, as well as the procedure for their execution and submission (with the exception of senior officers) are established by the head of the federal executive body in which military service is provided.

- Shoulder straps

1) Soldiers and sailors.
On shoulder straps they do not have any insignia.

2) Sergeants and foremen.
They have insignia in the form of cloth galloons - stripes. In the army, these stripes are called "snot".

3) Ensigns and midshipmen.
They have insignia in the form of small stars arranged vertically. Shoulder straps are similar to officer's, but without gaps and may have edges (for more details, see the pictures below).

4) Junior officers.
One vertically located strip - clearance. Asterisks metal, small (13 mm).

5) Senior officers.
Two gaps and large metal stars (20 mm).

6) The highest officers.
Large embroidered stars (22 mm) placed vertically, no gaps.

7) General of the Army, Admiral of the Fleet.
One large embroidered star with a diameter of 40 mm.

8) Marshal Russian Federation.
It has one very large embroidered star (40 mm) against the background of radially diverging silver rays forming a pentagon, and the coat of arms of Russia (without a heraldic shield).

- Command of the Russian Army

The next point of our analysis is faces. Those people who lead our army.

First of all, of course, I want to name the Supreme Commander-in-Chief - the President of the Russian Federation. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief is not a title, but a position. The only position that allows you to lead the Marshal of the Russian Federation. This position allows you to manage representatives of the highest officer ranks.

Then comes the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. The Minister of Defense combines the commander of both the ground forces and the Navy. That is why there is no higher rank in the Navy than Admiral of the Fleet.

The material was prepared by Dilyara specifically for the site

Which turned out to be more convenient and practical. Compared to the previous one, it began to look more dignified and solid. And this is important, because good relations between people and representatives of law enforcement agencies will depend, among other things, on a positive perception of their appearance, and not just professional qualities.

The changes also affected police insignia, including shoulder straps. Curved stripes are now present on shoulder straps, but their meaning has been preserved since Soviet times.

A Brief History of Police Insignia

Some historians agree that until the time when the armed forces could appear in our country, functioning on a regular basis, military ranks had little difference. So, in senior and junior ranks, differences could only be detected by the cut of the uniform and type of weapons.

Some modernization was carried out during the reign of Peter I. The then officers began to wear gorgets, which were badges like scarves with elements of state heraldry. To early XIX centuries, innovations were introduced into the Russian army in the form of uniforms, outwardly similar to the current ones (“tail coats”).

Hats appeared, which began to emphasize the difference in military ranks. Little by little, epaulettes began to enter the custom of military mods. The officer's epaulettes were made in the same color as the uniform itself, while the general's were distinguished by golden hues.

In the early 20s of the XIX century, the military uniform of Russian soldiers began to stand out with the appearance of stars. The presence of one asterisk could mean that the soldier is an ensign, two - a major, three - a lieutenant colonel, four - a staff captain. But the colonel walked with epaulettes, which did not have asterisks at all. From the 1840s, non-commissioned officers began to have something similar to insignia. These were transverse stripes, somewhat similar to the sergeant's stripes of the times of the Soviet Union.

The appearance of an analogue of the first shoulder straps

Something similar to shoulder straps with stars of more or less modern designs began to appear in the Russian state from the middle of the 19th century. Their appearance by some historians is associated with the introduction of new models of military uniforms, and specifically with the overcoat that is now familiar to us all. Shoulder straps with sewn-on galloons and stars were fixed in the area of the shoulders on the uniform. The size of all officer epaulettes, along with the highest ranks, was completely the same.

Following the revolution of 1917, stars with shoulder straps, which were perceived by the Bolsheviks as a symbol of tsarism and autocracy, were simply abolished. However, over time, the military Soviet leadership decided to return the historical insignia. Initially, this was expressed in the appearance of sleeve patches, and already starting from 1943, shoulder straps.

Shoulder straps and ranks of Russian police officers

The distribution by military ranks and the use of insignia, including shoulder straps, is used not only by the Russian army, but also to determine special ranks by law enforcement and other structures. Due to a certain level of similarity between military and police activities, the placement of stars and other elements on police shoulder straps is similar to that of the Russian army.

Stars on the shoulder straps of ordinary police officers in order

On the shoulder straps of ordinary police officers there is a distinctive sign - a button, next to which there is an emblem with the inscription "police". Police cadets have a distinctive sign with the letter "K" on their shoulder straps.

Shoulder straps and ranks of the junior commanding staff of the police

The shoulder straps that junior sergeants, sergeants and senior sergeants have have rectangular tabs that are located across the shoulder straps. Two ribbons indicate the rank of junior sergeant, three ribbons - sergeants, senior sergeants wear one wide transverse ribbon on the pursuit, the same wide ribbon, but located vertically, is worn by foremen.

Shoulder straps and ranks of ensigns of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

The shoulder straps of each ensign are decorated with small stars arranged vertically. Shoulder straps with two stars are worn by warrant officers, and with three - by senior warrant officers.

Shoulder straps and ranks of the middle commanding staff

On shoulder straps of the middle composition there is a vertical red stripe, which is called a clearance, as well as small stars. With one asterisk located on the red strip, junior lieutenants go, with two asterisks on shoulder straps and a transverse strip between them - police lieutenants, with three asterisks (two are located in parallel, and the third on the strip) - senior lieutenants, with four asterisks (two parallel and two on the strip) - captains.

Shoulder straps and ranks of the senior commanding staff

Shoulder straps differ from the shoulder straps of previous employees by two gaps - red stripes located vertically along the entire length of the shoulder strap. There are also stars of large sizes from one to three. Majors wear one star in the middle inside the stripes. Shoulder straps with two stars located on the strips themselves parallel to each other are worn by lieutenant colonels. Shoulder straps with three stars, two of which are placed parallel to the stripes, one in the middle of the stripes slightly in front, are worn by colonels.

Shoulder straps and ranks of the highest commanding staff

General epaulettes have large stars arranged vertically and do not have gaps. With one star in the middle of the shoulder strap, major generals go. Lieutenant generals go with two stars, colonel generals go with three stars. Shoulder strap with one large and three-headed Russian coat of arms worn only by police generals of the Russian Federation, which is a rarity in this service hierarchy.

Each element of a military uniform has a specific purpose and appears on it not by chance, but under the influence of certain conditions, including historical ones. We can say that each element of the form bears both a historical load and a utilitarian purpose. The time of multi-million mass armies is coming to an end. In questions state security there can be no modes. Sovereignty and inviolability must remain highest level every minute all year round. To ensure reliable protection, the state is obliged to maintain an active powerful army, ready at any moment to repel an attack by an external enemy. Military activity is a complex process that does not stop day or night. Even when the personnel, it would seem, are resting, there are duty officers, guards, patrols,

Relations in the army must be strictly regulated. This requirement stems from at least two considerations. The first is that the personnel is a quasi-group organized along some common lines. Psychologists say that if such a group is left to itself, then conflicts in the relationship will soon arise. The second statement is more weighty. The army should be not only numerous, but also functional and manageable.

As long as the soldier has not retired from the reserve and is on the list of personnel of the unit, he is guided by the general military regulations. Certain norms for a serviceman have been developed in the event of his temporary stay outside the unit. Military clothing is the key to the high combat capability of the military forces. In Russia, the military uniform meets all the necessary requirements; it is comfortable, reliable and performs its main functions. A new military uniform in our country was released in 2015. The modern Russian army has a complex hierarchical structure based on the subordination of the lower levels to the higher ones. Unconditional obedience within the limits of the military regulations is determined by law, and violation of the order is punishable by a military court. In Russia, the army organizes its activities on the basis of certain regulatory documents, these are Federal Laws, Government Decrees, Presidential Decrees, as well as local resolutions of executive authorities in the regions. Thanks to a unified legal system, it is possible to effectively manage a contingent of many thousands, distributing general tasks and promptly addressing security issues.

The army is perhaps the most numerous institution that is considered to be regularly functioning. If all those liable for military service, including those who are in the reserve, are added to the contingent currently in service, then more than half of all Russian citizens will be covered. Naturally, such a size of the armed forces will be achieved only as a last resort, when military aggression from another state is inevitable, but even the existing military personnel, of whom there are hundreds of thousands, must be centrally

Despite the fact that every military man has spare stars, no one needs extra losses anyway. Besides

The USSR approached its collapse with very primitive equipment, which looked wretched even against the backdrop of the then unpretentious equipment of the NATO armies. However, in the nineties, despite the severe economic crisis and lack of money, progress in the field of military equipment,
