In all three films Optimus Prime acts as the leader of the Autobots. Although terrestrial civilization, by the standards of transformers, is still very primitive, Prime is ready to protect people, no matter what it costs to himself and his Autobot friends. Objecting to those who consider people a backward and barbaric race (and not only Megatron thinks so, but even some of the Autobots - in particular, Ironhide), Optimus expresses confidence that people, like all living beings, deserve freedom, and that they, too, have a choice. Even when humans begin to show hostility towards the Autobots, he comes to terms with it, respecting their right to make their own decisions; his only response to being told to leave Earth is to ask him to think.

In the final part of the Michael Bay trilogy, he also acts as the leader of the Autobots and tries to prevent the conversion of people into slaves of the Decepticons and the movement of Cybertron to Earth. All the main villains died from his hand - Megatron's former deputy Shockwave, the traitor Autobot Sentinel Prime and Megatron himself.

Although Optimus, like other Transformers, received a new, technically sophisticated design, the creators retained many classic details in his appearance. In particular, he was left with windows on his chest and an almost identical head.
