In 2018-2019, the next interregional Olympiad for schoolchildren will be held " Highest standard”, established by the Higher School of Economics (HSE). This popular competition has been running since 1998. It received its current name in 2012. Mission of the Olympiad

In addition to the general cultural mission of popularizing education among young people, "Highest Standard" strives to select the best students for the country's leading universities. Such competitions have partly replaced the previous entrance exams and are a real alternative to the USE. Almost all the largest Russian universities give priority to the winners and prize-winners of their Olympiads (or other similar competitions) when enrolling. "The highest standard" is distinguished by its humanitarian orientation. Preparation for participation

To prepare for the "Highest Standard" Olympiad, you can use demo versions of tests, as well as tasks and topics from previous years. Registration and organizational issues

Tens of thousands of schoolchildren from Russia and foreign countries. The number of prizes is about two thousand. Registration is carried out electronically on the official website until October 2018. The competition itself is divided into two stages. The first round is planned for November-December 2018. He is qualifying. The exam takes place in absentia, online from any computer, provided that the login and password provided by the organizers are entered. For some subjects, participants will be asked to write a short essay. The dates of the qualifying round are determined in advance, the time for completing tasks is strictly limited. Detailed information on this will be published in September 2018. Laureates of the last year's "Highest standard" from the non-graduating classes are exempted from the qualifying competitions, but are also required to register. Those who wish can participate in competitions in several subjects at once, if their schedule allows it.

Participants who successfully pass the first round are admitted to the second, final round. It will be held in January-February 2019 only in person in different cities of Russia or on the territory of foreign countries. Organizational and technical support at this stage is provided by local educational institutions selected as HSE partners.

All applicants are required to have a number of documents with them:

Schoolchildren can independently choose a convenient place and date for the competition from the options proposed by the organizers. After checking the works and possible appeals, the jury will announce the winners and prize-winners in all subjects. As a rule, this happens in early spring. Later, in Moscow and other cities of Russia, where branches of the HSE are opened, a solemn award ceremony will be held with the presentation of commemorative diplomas. These documents can be submitted to admissions committees Russian universities.

The Highest Standard and other similar competitions are often criticized for being "elitist" and "discriminating" against students who are unable or unwilling to participate. First of all, this applies to children from low-income families or from remote regions of the Russian Federation. Cases of fraud revealed during these competitions are sometimes mentioned. However, this rarely happens. Evidence shows that the winners of past Olympiads generally perform better at universities than students enrolled through the USE system.

Most of the subjects of the "Highest standard" are included in the official "List of Olympiads for schoolchildren", approved by the government of the Russian Federation. The winners and runners-up of this competition are entitled to the following benefits:

enrollment in universities without additional tests of knowledge in the core subject of the Olympiad;
maximum score USE in the profile subject of the Olympiad;
non-graduating students may enter the final round the following year without passing through the pre-selection sieve.

Participation

Registration. In October-November, everyone registers on the site and chooses profiles for which they want to complete tasks. You can choose several at once - the main thing is that the dates of the competitions do not coincide.

Qualifying stage. Held remotely in November-December. Participants do not need to go anywhere: on the appointed day they pass a special online test. The exception is for designers. Instead of a test, they spread in Personal Area their creative work.

The final stage. Passes or takes place internally in February and proceeds some days. Those who have received an invitation to the second stage participate in it - usually about 20% of those who took the online test. Participants then choose the regional venue closest to them. They often go to other regions - in 2018, sites were opened in 42 cities.

Here the tasks are already more difficult and interesting. For example, on Journalism, it was necessary to write an essay and a news item based on a photograph. And in the "Financial Literacy" competition - to compare microloans and consumer loans.

Results. As a rule, the names of winners and prize-winners are announced in early April. The results are valid for four years, but some universities enroll only winners of 11 classes.

Also, universities themselves determine on what conditions to accept winners and prize-winners: without exams or at the maximum USE score. It depends on the prize place and the level of the Olympiad. There are only three levels: the higher it is, the more likely it is to enter a prestigious institution, bypassing the general competition.

For example, the winners of the "Highest standard" in mathematics (level I) are admitted to the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow State University, MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and other universities. And the winners of the Olympiad "Step into the Future" in mathematics ( III level) can be enrolled without exams only in a few universities, among which, however, are RUDN and PRUE. Plekhanov.

How to prepare

Materials. To prepare for the competition, look at the materials from last year's Olympiads. Understand the topics, the structure of tasks and solve everything that comes to hand. It is not known which of these will be useful on day X.

Time. You have to prepare not only for tasks, but also for the fact that you will have little time for them. In order not to panic and not to add answers in the last seconds, distribute your forces in advance:

🚀 Find out how much time is given to solve tasks. At the final stage, depending on the class and profile of the Olympiad, it is 120-240 minutes.

🚀 Take on immediately those tasks in which you feel confident.

🚀 Do not lean on the draft, but do only calculations and short notes in it, otherwise there will not be enough time for a clean draft. The exception is olympiads in mathematics, physics and design. There, a draft can be applied to work.

🚀 Still, take the last 15 minutes to copy the answers into a clean copy.

What gives victory and prizes

2. Benefits for admission to the HSE and other universities. But in order to confirm the Olympiad, you will have to pass the USE in a specialized subject with at least 75 points.

For 10th and 11th graders, benefits can be in the form of enrollment without entrance exams or 100 points on the exam. For the rest - invitations immediately to the final stage next year. Also, winners and prize-winners can count on a grant from the President of the Russian Federation.

Participation in the Olympiad is free. The Olympiad is held in two stages. The history of Olympiads for schoolchildren is slightly less than the history of HSE itself. The university first opened its doors for holding intellectual competitions of students in 1998. Since 2010, the Olympiad has been held in close cooperation with the leading Russian universities. In 2012, the Olympiad received a new name - the Interregional Olympiad for schoolchildren "Highest standard". The words "highest standard" in the title refer, of course, to the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad. The fact that we have them of the “highest standard” is evidenced by the data of the Interuniversity study “Achievement of first-year students of higher educational institutions in Russia”, conducted under the auspices of the Russian Council of School Olympiads. According to these data, the Higher School of Economics is annually included in the TOP-10 universities with the highest academic performance of the Olympiad diplomats. Since 2019, the Olympiad has become All-Russian.

Participants represent more than 83 subjects of Russia. A wide geographical coverage - from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad - allows us to rightfully call the Olympiad of our university All-Russian. On a par with Russian schoolchildren almost 4,000 schoolchildren from the CIS and Baltic countries “fight” for the victory in the Olympiad competitions.

Almost all subjects of the Olympiad "Highest Standard" were included in the Draft List of School Olympiads for the 2019/20 academic year, approved by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The Olympiad, in which students of grades 7-11 are invited to participate, is held in 22 profiles. Nine Olympiads within the framework of the "Highest Standard" were assigned the I level, eight - the II level, three - the III level (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia dated 08.30.17 No. 866.).

HSE, like other educational organizations higher education, has already approved the rules for the admission of Olympiads. As a rule, benefits are provided to diploma students who will graduate from the 11th grade in 2018, but for some educational programs preferences also apply to students who received a diploma last year, when they were 10th graders. The Olympiad is held in a wide range of profiles, corresponding to the educational programs of master's training at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Students are invited to participate in the Olympiad, mastering educational programs of a bachelor's or specialist's degree, as well as graduates educational organizations higher education regardless of citizenship. Schoolchildren of grades 9-11 from all regions of the Russian Federation who have experience in writing research papers or who know how it is “arranged” are invited to participate in the Olympiad research activities and scientific work.

The Olympiad is held in two stages: correspondence and full-time. In the correspondence stage, test-type tasks are presented for individual researcher skills: such as the ability to set goals and objectives, formulate a research hypothesis, plan the course and structure of work, etc. At the in-person stage, the participants of the Olympiad will be given the task of peer review research work according to the criteria and write a review of this work.

The winners of the Olympiad will receive a certificate from the National Research University Higher School of Economics and memorable prizes.
