Gadgets. Phablets are essentially a larger phone or a smaller tablet with cellular radio capability. While there are smaller 8 inch tablets like the iPad Mini and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 that sport cellular capability, the phablet definition is limited to screen sizes under 7 inches - perhaps that being the limit of how ridiculous it looks to put such a device to your ear to use as a phone. All translators coped with the task: their translations allowed us to mainly understand the meaning of the message. Nobody, however, coped with “sport”. But polite Translate.Ru translated: “ your ear» exclusively as “Your ear”.

Google was also good. It is curious, however, that Yandex considered the subject of speech (having fine hair, good-looking and dancing well) to be a lady, while Google suggested a masculine option, for example, “I got fine hair.” But we must give him his due; the feminine gender was also present among the translation options. Perhaps this shows that Yandex analyzes longer groups of words. Bing was undecided: sometimes the object of speech was a lady, sometimes a gentleman. SYSTRANet went the furthest in generalizations, which used neuter gender: “I danced so well.” The last sentence was not easy for many test takers. Translate version: “He said he would never forget that day.”

“So which translator is the best?” - the reader will ask. If we are talking about a desktop translator “for every day,” then, in my opinion, it will be Google or Yandex.

Judge for yourself. All systems coped with the translation into Russian in approximately the same way: the result of their efforts made it possible to understand the meaning of the text. Perhaps SYSTRANet has lagged behind. If, in addition to Russian, you use Belarusian or Ukrainian, your choice is Google or Yandex. Google is the leader in terms of the wealth of possibilities: it has document translation and voice input, which Yandex does not have. However, translating the entire document is not a very popular “feature”, since a zealous translator can ruin the formatting of the source document.
